A suspect from Brussels was apprehended following a fire at a luxury villa that occurred on Sunday evening in Chaumont-Gistoux.
The Brabant Wallon Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson announced the arrest on Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters had been called out to a house fire early Sunday evening, along the Chaussée de Huy in Chaumont-Gistoux.
There were no occupants present at the time, but the damage was extensive, rendering the property uninhabitable.
Police from the Ardennes Brabançonnes and the Wavre area were also deployed to the scene.
The prosecutor’s office has requested the assistance of a fire expert and forensic police. Initial investigation findings suggest the fire was likely intentional.
A man born in 1990 from Woluwe-Saint-Lambert was arrested and taken into custody shortly before 21:00 on Sunday. He is suspected of setting the villa ablaze.
