Four people have been hospitalised after a fire broke out in a block of flats in Tournai on Saturday morning.
The Wallonie Picarde fire brigade reported that the individuals were affected by smoke inhalation. The residential building was completely evacuated, with the incident deemed accidental.
Emergency services arrived shortly after 06:45 at the building on Rue Aimable Dutrieux in Tournai. A significant response team from the Tournai fire station was dispatched, including three ambulances and a turntable ladder truck. Firefighters safely evacuated the residents and then contained the blaze.
The fire was caused by a fault in a high-voltage cabin located in the building’s basement.
The four individuals affected by smoke were treated by paramedics and admitted to the emergency department of the Wallonie Picarde Hospital Centre “Union” in Tournai. Their current health condition remains unknown.
