A record 25,000 enthusiasts flocked to the Nerdland Festival 2025 in Wachtebeke over the weekend, marking the largest attendance ever, according to organiser Laurien Troch.

From Friday 6 June to Monday 9 June, the Puyenbroeck domain in Wachtebeke was transformed into a paradise for curious minds, tech enthusiasts, and adventurous science fans. The turnout set a new record for the festival.

Laurien Troch attributed the high attendance to the addition of a fourth day to the event. A major draw was television personality Lieven Scheire, who returned to the stage with the Neveneffecten cabaret quartet. “It’s fantastic to see such a gigantic community emerge and come together at Nerdland Festival,” Troch said.

Another key attraction was Belgian scientist Hetty Helsmoortel. “We embrace the unexpected,” she said. “Science is not only fascinating but also surprising, captivating, and groundbreaking. We aim to showcase this in every possible way at our festival.”

Belgian astronaut Raphaël Liégeois also made an appearance, answering attendees’ questions about space.
