More than 300 animals were seized by local authorities in Bocholt, Limburg, during an operation on Saturday. The details of the case of animal abuse were made public on Tuesday.
During the raid, the police discovered 334 animals in and around the property, including dogs, chickens, geese, ducks and pigeons. The residents had already received a warning for neglecting their animals but failed to take action.
The animals found on Saturday were living in appalling conditions, deprived of food and water. Many of them were sick, injured or already dead.
With the exception of a few swans and pigeons, all the animals were seized and transferred to three animal shelters in the region.
The police filed a report for failure to comply with animal welfare regulations, and the owner will be questioned.
