A new summer event ‘Quai d’Été’ aims to bring excitement to the Belgian capital from 3 to 13 July, offering a “holiday break for those staying in the city,” Brussels City Council announced on Tuesday.

Throughout the 11-day event, the Quai des Péniches, located along the Brussels canal, will host a variety of activities, allowing visitors to play, dance, relax, or enjoy a drink.

Largely free, this diverse event is centred around a “sport and relaxation” theme. The programme includes deck chairs, cultural activities, mini-golf, pétanque, trampolines, children’s workshops, and ‘urban tennis.’ Attendees can also refresh themselves at a bar providing continuous meals.

Revellers will have the chance to board ‘The Boat’ for daily party cruises featuring Brussels-based DJ sets. While all onshore activities are free, these musical cruises will require a ticket.

From Monday to Saturday, cultural activities and workshops will enliven the area from 2 pm to 6 pm, while “chill” DJ sets will entertain visitors from Wednesday to Saturday between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. On Sundays, activities will run at the new Quai des Péniches market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by the ‘Boum Kids’ event until 6 p.m.

The new event draws inspiration from the legacy of Bruxelles-les-Bains, a former staple at Quai des Péniches, organised by the City of Brussels between 2003 and 2019.

Quai d’Été presents a “more contemporary and flexible” version, says the city. “Less beach, more port: containers, raw structures, murals, and reclaimed furniture,” it adds. “A warm post-industrial vibe reflecting the district’s spirit.”

Quai d’Été is part of the ‘Plaisirs d’Été’ concept, which encompasses events organised by Brussels Major Events for the city during the summer season.
