An officer who was involved in the collision that killed 11-year-old Fabian last week in Ganshoren has been arrested, according to reports from several news outlets on Wednesday morning.
The Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office has so far not confirmed the news, but it scheduled a press conference for 10:30.
Eleven-year-old Fabian was on his way home on an electric scooter on Monday evening when the police wanted to check him, presumably because he was too young to use an electric scooter.
For reasons that are unclear, the boy fled, and the police pursued him. At around 17:50, a collision occurred in Elisabeth Park, seriously injuring Fabian. The emergency services resuscitated the boy at the scene and took him to hospital, but he died of his injuries.
The Brussels public prosecutor's office has handed over the investigation into the accident to the Committee P.
According to various media reports, the police officer who was driving the police vehicle and the officer who was sitting next to him in the vehicle were deprived of their liberty on Monday.
At least the driver was placed under arrest by the investigating judge, according to local media. It is still unclear on what charges this was done. The man is due to appear before the Brussels court on Friday.
