Three suspects involved in an incident that killed a 19-year-old in Spa, in Liège, were released, the Liège Public Prosecutor's Office said on Wednesday. A fourth suspect is still at large.
The incident, which resulted in the death of Théo Georges (19), took place on 31 May at around 2:30 outside Le Havana café in the centre of Spa. "A group of three people, including the victim, were clearly waiting outside the café for three people of Palestinian origin who had been spending the evening there to leave," explained the Liège public prosecutor's office.
When two of them finally came out to join an acquaintance waiting outside the café, a fight broke out. "A member of Théo Georges' group directly and without warning punched one of the two men, knocking him to the ground. The acquaintance then rushed to join the general brawl that ensued," the Public Prosecutor's Office said.
"Analysis [of the footage filmed by a witness] shows that the knife wounds to the victim were inflicted by this fourth person. The latter is currently still on the run and is being actively sought," the Liège Public Prosecutor's Office announced on Wednesday.
The three suspects who had been arrested were released on Wednesday. "One had his arrest warrant lifted by the investigating judge because he did not take part in the general brawl, either directly or indirectly, as he did not leave the café. The Chamber of Council ordered the unconditional release of the two other people arrested, as there was no serious evidence of guilt on the charge of murder."
However, the public prosecutor's office has requested additional charges of assault and battery against all those involved in the incident.
The investigation into the cause and details of the incident is ongoing.
