In response to the challenges of a constantly evolving job market, the Walloon government has adopted a new strategy to support linguistic skill development for 2025-2030, aiming to boost social and professional integration, meet growing employer demands, and enhance job mobility.

The strategy seeks to integrate education, professional training, and the business world to provide a more relevant and targeted language programme, tailored to economic realities, explained Pierre-Yves Jeholet, Walloon Minister of Employment. This plan will focus on language training aligned with market needs, strengthened linguistic support from ‘Cités des Métiers’, and a new digital approach. As part of this, the general language learning platform ‘Wallangues’ will be phased out in favour of existing alternatives.

Coordinated by Forem, the 'Carrefour des Langues' will bring together training and education stakeholders to develop innovative teaching resources, share expertise, and create a sector-recognised language certification system.

Located in Louvain-la-Neuve, the ‘Maison des Langues’ will house pedagogical teams, language content developers, and ‘Carrefour des Langues’ actors, serving as the regional hub for professional language learning.

Lastly, a language skills barometer will be created to monitor and evaluate the implementation outcomes.
