The US Department of Homeland Security has shared an unusual image online, urging people to report “foreign invaders,” complete with a hotline number.
The image features Uncle Sam, a fictional character symbolic of the United States, posting a notice that reads “Help your country… and yourself.” It includes the message “report all foreign invaders,” accompanied by a phone number for the immigration service, ICE.
Initially circulated by right-wing conservative users on the social networking site X, the image has now been officially endorsed by the department.
Uncle Sam is traditionally recognised for his role in recruiting soldiers during World War I and II and encouraging voter turnout. The Homeland Security Department now aims to use him as the face of a large-scale deportation campaign.
The posting comes amidst protests in various cities against the Trump administration’s deportation plans. Following demonstrations in Los Angeles, protests have also occurred in New York, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Raleigh, Denver, and Spokane.
In recent weeks, President Trump and his team have frequently described undocumented immigrants as “foreign invaders.” During his campaign, Trump vowed to deport those without legal residency on a wide scale.
