The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) issued a yellow weather alert for high temperatures across Belgium, excluding the coastal region.

Today, the hottest temperatures are expected in major cities and low-lying areas, with local peaks of 33°C to 34°C, particularly in Flanders.

A northerly wind should keep temperatures in the western part of West Flanders below 28°C, while the coast should not see temperatures rise above 25°C. In the Ardennes, temperatures could reach 30°C.

The RMI advises extra vigilance of those who are most vulnerable such as the elderly and children. During days with high temperatures, RMI emphasises the importance of staying properly hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Tomorrow, cooler weather is anticipated, with only Limburg expected to experience highs of up to 32°C.
