Approximately 4.5 tonnes of cocaine were intercepted in the Port of Amsterdam on Friday afternoon, according to the Public Prosecution Service.
The drugs were concealed within a shipment of timber from West Africa. The container, which arrived by cargo vessel from West Africa on Thursday, was unloaded in the Port of Amsterdam.
It was chosen for inspection “based on risk analysis” and checked with sniffer dogs. The cocaine has been seized and is set to be destroyed.
