A fire broke out at Mont-Godinne hospital in Namur after 01:00 on Monday morning but was quickly contained. No one was injured but the incident has disrupted operations on Monday.

The fire broke out in the consultation area of Mont-Godinne Hospital (Yvoir), part of CHU UCL Namur, according to Dinaphi zone spokesperson Patrice Liétart.

The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters who arrived with two multifunctional pumps and an aerial ladder. The water damage is more significant than the fire damage. Firefighters also had to ventilate the building for several hours.

According to CHU UCL Namur, an electrical issue is suspected to have caused the fire. For safety reasons and due to the damage, Entrance A is temporarily closed to the public. Patients and visitors are being directed to use Entrance B instead.

Disruptions on Monday

Given the situation, certain medical consultations including paediatrics, dermatology, infectiology, endocrinology, urological surgery, plastic surgery, and wound care have been relocated to other facilities to ensure the safety and comfort of patients and staff. Affected patients have been notified via SMS about their appointment details.

"All scheduled day surgery interventions on Monday morning have been cancelled as a precaution," the hospital stated in a press release. "We will reassess at midday to consider resuming activities this afternoon, depending on cleaning progress and equipment functionality evaluation. Affected patients have already been informed of the cancellations".

The continuity of care for hospitalised patients is fully maintained, the statement added.
