The police officer who knocked down and killed 11-year-old Fabian has appealed the decision to extend his pre-trial detention.
The officer was placed under arrest following a chase in Ganshoren that resulted in the death of Fabian, an 11-year old boy, on 2 June. Fabian was on an e-scooter and chased through Parc Élisabeth, where he was struck down.
The officer has appealed the judicial decision to extend his detention for an additional month under electronic monitoring, the Brussels Public Prosecutor announced on Monday.
He is now required to appear before the chamber of indictments within 15 days.
The Public Prosecutor assigned the investigation into the accident to 'Committee P', a police oversight body. The investigation has already revealed that, contrary to their statements, the police officers did not activate the siren or lights during the chase.
