The Belgian capital will become a living laboratory of contemporary design from 17 September to 2 October, when it hosts the 19th edition of Brussels Design September.

During the two weeks, 100 exhibitions, installations, open studios, themed tours, and collaborative projects will take over the city, organisers announced on Tuesday.

The festival aims to be a convergence point for various disciplines, generations, and formats, encompassing author design, material research, social innovation, experimental storytelling, circular economy, and urban engagement.

Exploring languages, materials and narratives

The 2025 edition will feature exhibitions exploring languages, materials, and narratives. Highlights will include the IMAGINAIR gallery at Hotel The Dominican, an introspective exhibition by Mario Trimarchi at A.Galerie, a solo show by Roxane Lahidji at Augusta Gallery, and the second edition of Curated at Hotel Mix.

MAD Brussels will celebrate La Cambre’s 100th anniversary with the Trans-Formations exhibition and a Graduation Show dedicated to young creators.

There will also be an immersion into the finest Czech books with Book Space, plus a contemporary reinterpretation of Art Deco at Halles Saint-Géry.

Open Doors Weekend on 19-21 September

The Open Doors weekend, from 19 to 21 September, will be a pivotal moment, allowing the public to explore creative spaces, studios, and fab labs, while the new hybrid Materiatek infrastructure, combining a material library, coworking space, and events, will welcome curious visitors.

The festival will also address the visibility of women in design with the ‘Women in Contemporary Polish Design’ exhibition at the Design Museum Brussels and a series of lectures titled “Celles qui font le design.”

This series will consist of several meetings from September to October, bringing together thinkers, practitioners, entrepreneurs, and teachers to examine systemic conditions of creation, recognition, and transmission.

Brussels Design September will extend to streets, shop windows, cafés, and boutiques, featuring the Commerce Design Brussels competition, with awards to be presented on 30 September, and the Shops & Brands and Vintage Route tours weaving through the city.
