Actor Tom Cruise will receive an Honorary Oscar in November for his entire career, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences – the organisation responsible for presenting the film awards – announced on Tuesday.

Despite a long career and four nominations, the 62-year-old Cruise had yet to win an Oscar, a situation that seemed almost ‘Mission Impossible.’ However, he will finally receive one this year.

The Academy praised Cruise for helping the film industry recover following the challenging COVID-19 period. He has demonstrated a profound dedication to his craft, including performing all his own stunts, according to the organisation.

Cruise will be presented with the Honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards ceremony on 16 November. Actress Debbie Allen, production designer Wynn Thomas, and country singer Dolly Parton will also receive Honorary Oscars at the event.

Honorary Awards are given to persons who have achieved “extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences in any discipline, or for outstanding service to the Academy,” according to a press release from the Academy.
