Russia, a close ally of Iran, has accused Israel of pushing the world closer to a nuclear disaster. The Russian Foreign Ministry said Israel’s intensive attacks on Iran’s civilian nuclear infrastructure were illegal under international law.
Iran insists that its nuclear programme is solely for peaceful purposes.
Russia, a nuclear power itself, has repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons during the conflict in Ukraine.
Both Russia and Iran face Western sanctions and have sustained a strong alliance.
Iran has been criticised for supporting Moscow in its war against Ukraine.
