Belgium's Ministry of Justice will announce 113 vacant magistrate positions in the Belgian Official Gazette on Friday.
This includes 60 positions for courts and tribunals, and 53 for public prosecutors’ offices. It represents a recruitment budget of €12 million.
Candidates have 20 days to apply, but only legal professionals who have passed the magistracy exam or completed a two-year judicial internship are eligible.
This marks the first time during the current federal legislature that magistrate vacancies have been advertised, addressing longstanding sector demands to tackle staff shortages.
"We invite legal professionals dreaming of a career as a judge or prosecutor to apply," said Annelies Verlinden, the Justice Minister.
The minister has held discussions with the judiciary, organising thematic task forces on issues like infrastructure, security, and resources, aiming to develop an action plan for and by field professionals.
"The rule of law is not just a legal principle; it’s a societal choice we must commit to and defend daily. I stand with our magistrates in this endeavour," the minister concluded.
