The number of companies being established has remained steady, according to data from the notaries.

Since May 2019, a new corporate and association code has been in effect, aimed at offering start-up entrepreneurs more flexibility to encourage business development.

Data from the Federation of Notaries indicates a stabilisation in the number of new companies after several years of growth.

Specifically, 32,707 new companies were established in the first year (1 May 2019 to 30 April 2020). The following year saw 37,784 new registrations, and the year after that, 42,161. Between 1 May 2024 and 30 April 2025, there were 42,086 new companies, demonstrating a stabilisation.

Flanders was responsible for over 60% of the newly established companies in the past year, despite a 1.9% decrease in new businesses. Brussels experienced a rise of 7.3%, while Wallonia witnessed a slight decline of 0.3%.

Additionally, nearly 88% of companies had updated their statutes to align with the new corporate and association code by the end of April, according to the notarial data.
