A large sea search operation took place in Knokke-Heist overnight from Friday to Saturday after a man believed he saw someone drowning and jumped into the water to help, getting into trouble himself.
Emergency services received a call about a possible drowning at around 4:00.
A young man had reportedly seen someone in the water near the Duinbergen sailing club and entered the water to assist. When rescuers arrived, he was nearly out of the water but was taken to hospital for evaluation.
Regarding the supposed drowning victim, local police confirmed it was a false alarm.
