Brussels Airlines plans to operate a fleet of 50 aircraft this summer, up from 44 last year, to transport nearly 2 million passengers.
To accommodate this increase in passengers, Brussels Airlines has added an Airbus 320 for short and medium-haul flights, and an Airbus 330 for long-haul journeys. Additionally, four Airbus A220 aircraft are being used under a “wet-lease” agreement with Air Baltic, which will operate flights on behalf of Brussels Airlines.
For the first time this summer, the airline has hired 47 students to work as cabin crew. They have undergone the same selection process and rigorous training as other crew members. The airline notes that its customers favour Spain as their top destination, followed by Greece and Italy. It is serving 12 Spanish destinations from Belgium this summer, including the popular cities of Malaga, Barcelona, and Alicante.
On long-haul routes, New York and Kinshasa are the most popular holiday destinations for Belgians.
Brussels Airlines advises passengers to arrive on time at the airport, which is expected to be busier in July and August.
A summer plan has been implemented to reduce long queues at Brussels Airport, with additional staff allocated to passport control during peak times.
