A man seized a police radio from a Brussels officer on Sunday before fleeing the scene, according to the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone, who successfully tracked and retrieved the device.
Linda Camarero-Verde, the police spokesperson, reported that the incident occurred around 17:55 during an altercation on Anspach Boulevard in Brussels. In the chaos, the suspect grabbed the officer’s communication radio and ran off. The police were able to track the device immediately, and duly disabled it right afterwards.
Specialised teams geolocated the radio abandoned among rubbish a few hours later, at approximately 19:30. They also found a person close to the device, and took him in for questioning after regaining the gadget. The investigation is still ongoing and the real culprit might still be at large.
