Qatar, home to the United States’ largest military base in the Middle East, is suspending all traffic over its airspace.
The Gulf state announced this decision following Iranian threats of retaliatory attacks after U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
“The relevant authorities announce the temporary suspension of air traffic in the country’s airspace as part of a series of precautionary measures taken in light of regional developments,” Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The U.S. Embassy had already advised American citizens in Qatar to stay in safe locations, while the UK has issued a similar warning to its citizens.
Qatar is located across the Persian Gulf from Iran.
