A Brussels court confirmed on Tuesday the previous decision to drop charges against the police officers involved in the 2019 incident that led to the death of 17-year-old Mehdi Bouda.

On the night of 20 August 2019, officers from the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone were conducting checks at Mont des Arts when Mehdi Bouda fled upon seeing them, prompting a pursuit.

As Bouda ran onto Cantersteen, a police vehicle responding to a burglary in Schaerbeek, travelling at 98 km/h in a 30 km/h zone, collided with him. The vehicle had its emergency lights on but no siren activated.

Bouda was fatally struck by the speeding police car.

In April 2024, a Brussels court had already decided not to prosecute the officers involved.
