The Parti Socialiste (PS), Mouvement Réformateur (MR), and Les Engagés announced on Wednesday evening that they have reached a joint governance agreement for the main inter-municipal organisations in Charleroi as these bodies prepare to renew their executives.
The October 2024 municipal elections altered some of the balance within the inter-municipal representations in Charleroi.
This prompted the three parties to engage in intense discussions, in recent weeks, regarding the presidencies and vice-presidencies of the main ones: Tibi, which specialises in waste management, Igretec (social works), Humani (management, technical and economic studies) and La Sambrienne (housing).
According to the parties, the agreement is based on a balanced mechanism rooted in the results of the municipal elections and will be rotational for the 2025-2028 and 2028-2031 periods.
Specifically, the three parties will share presidential and vice-presidential roles over two three-year cycles, with changes occurring between the cycles.
With this agreement, Charleroi has opted for stability, the three parties indicated.
Each inter-municipal organisation will be managed by an executive board made up of representatives of the three parties.
According to the PS, MR, and Les Engagés, this agreement does not compromise the ability of each political group to defend its beliefs, develop its projects, and advocate for its programme.
