A body was found in the Brussels canal in Anderlecht this morning after two people fell in the water following a fight.
One individual was rescued and taken hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A search was carried out for the other person involved after they failed to emerge from the water.
This morning, Brussels fire department spokesman Walter Derieuw confirmed a lifeless body had been found by a fire crew. He confirmed that emergency services were called to the canal at around 07:30 following reports that two people had fallen into the canal near the Veeweyde quay in Anderlecht.
According to Derieuw, the incident happened following a fight between four people – including the two who fell into the water. One of the victims emerged unharmed. “Unfortunately, the lifeless body of the second victim was located, at around 09:45, using our boat’s sonar,” said Derieuw.
The three people involved in the fight have been arrested and are currently being questioned, according to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office.
