Die Keure, a printing and publishing company in Bruges, has announced plans to close its printing operations, putting 65 jobs at risk, according to news confirmed by the Christian trade union ACV/CSC.
The company currently employs a total of 205 people. The news of the closure was unexpected, according to Wayne Heernaert from the ACV. “It’s a shock. We operate in a challenging climate, but we didn’t anticipate it would escalate to such an extent,” he said.
The specific reasons behind the decision are not yet clear. “We’ll gather tomorrow for more information,” the union stated. “The sales market is largely American, which might be a key factor, but there are several other considerations.”
ACV hopes to reduce the number of threatened jobs. “It’s too early to determine exactly which positions are affected. Many discussions will follow. We aim to minimise the impact,” the union added.
