Local traffic in the capital is set to experience some disruptions this summer due to planned road works, warned Brussels Mobility on Friday.
As holiday months tend to be quieter in Brussels, several projects to improve mobility and road safety are often scheduled to take place throughout the summer months.
Among the redevelopment projects is the transformation of the part of the A12 motorway into a city Boulevard. This will cause the intersection between the De Wand - Croix du Feu to be closed between 4 and 25 August.

From 10:00 on 12 August until 6:00 on 13 August, the A12 itself will be closed because of the installation of a bicycle bridge. Traffic leaving the city will be diverted via Avenue du Parc Royal. Traffic entering the city will be diverted via Gros Tilleul and Van Praet.
In August, traffic will be disrupted in the intersection of Avenue du Parc Royal and Avenue de Madrid, as only one lane will be available, except on the days when the bicycle bridge is installed.

The work around the Chaussée de Neerstalle and the Place Saint-Denis to create a more accessible area will continue to progress this summer.
The tram tracks on line 82 will be renewed, after which the work on improving the road surface and pavement will continue. Some sections of the local roads will be closed to traffic.
At Rue Saint-Denis, the road will be limited to accommodate one-way traffic while the sewers are being replaced. The Avenue du Parc will be closed locally at the construction site as sewers in the area are renewed.
Moris and Antoine Bréart streets will also be closed for complete redevelopment.

The redevelopment of Place Sainctelette is set to continue. While car traffic will not be significantly impacted, tram services will be suspended from 4 August.
Closer to the EU quarter, the one-way traffic on Avenue de Kortenberg towards Schuman will remain in place until the end of the year. A number of crossings will be built on this avenue over the summer.
At Boulevard Lambermont, water and sewer pipes will be replaced and the high-voltage line will be renewed. Only a one lane will be operational on the boulevard in direction of Van Praet.

The Quai du Hainaut will remain closed to traffic until work on reinforcement of the quay wall is completed. Similarly, the Quai des Charbonnages will be partially closed to motor traffic.
Meanwhile the start of the redevelopment work at Chaussée de Mons will disrupt traffic at Quai Demets.
At Place de la Reine, car traffic will have to use the tram site or narrow lanes, while at Rue de Beughem and Rue Dupont, traffic will be completely interrupted, also affecting cyclists.
The traffic situation around the Central Station will remain the same throughout the summer months.

Several tram tracks will be renewed throughout the summer impacting traffic across the capital. The traffic towards the city centre will be limited to the Sablon due to the renewal of tracks on Rue de la Régence. For the same reasons, the Rue des Palais will be closed until the end of August.
On Rue Rogier, the street will be closed locally and traffic will be diverted via Rue Royale Sainte-Marie. The Tram line 92 will be replaced by a shuttle service due to the work in the area.
Due to work to create a new tram exit, Chaussée de Haecht will be temporarily one-way street towards the city exit.

Finally, a series of projects will also target tunnels and bridges in the region. The Delta bridge is set to be renovated in the summer, restricting traffic to a single lane in both directions from 30 June until the end of August.
In the Van Praet tunnel, traffic will be affected at night except on Friday and Saturday evenings. The lane in the tunnel or the side road will be closed in each direction.
Moreover, the Montgomery tunnel is set to have its ventilation system replaced from 18 July. Due to this, the tunnel will be closed at night in both directions. Similarly, the Louise and Stéphanie tunnels will be closed at night during the summer.
