Starting tomorrow, France will implement a smoking ban in public spaces such as schools, beaches, parks, and bus shelters.

This decree has been published in the French Official Journal and will take effect on Sunday. The smoking ban announced by the French government will apply to beaches, public parks and gardens, sports facilities, bus shelters, and areas near schools and libraries.

The ban will not apply to café terraces and electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes or vapes) are not addressed in the text. The primary aim of the ban is to protect children from the dangers of passive smoking.

French Health Minister Catherine Vautrin stated, “Where there are children, tobacco must disappear.” Anyone caught violating the ban faces a fine of €135.
