On Saturday afternoon, crowds gathered at the Mont des Arts in Brussels for the opening of the Smurf Village, which began at 13:00.

Families with young children were keen to enjoy the village’s attractions, while others came for the world premiere of the new feature film “Smurfs”. The film premiered today, on Global Smurfs Day, at the Square, attended by director Chris Miller and stars James Corden and Rihanna.

Fans have already gathered on Coudenberg, hoping to catch a glimpse of the global superstar. The blue carpet, rolled out for the occasion, stretches from King’s Square to the Mont des Arts.

Around 300 lucky individuals were admitted into the fan zone, offering them a better chance of seeing Rihanna up close. A total of 700 Belgian and international guests have been invited to the screening, which begins at 16:00. The film will be released in cinemas on 16 July.

In the movie, Papa Smurf is kidnapped by Razamel and Gargamel. Smurfette and her friend Nameless Smurf embark on a mission to rescue him. In the Flemish version, the role of Nameless Smurf is voiced by Aaron Blommaert, known from ‘Family’ and his music career. Ketnet star Imea Denooze lends her voice to Smurfette.

The cast also includes Rikkert van Dijck as Papa Smurf, Govert Deploige as Gargamel, Jenne Decleir as Razamel, Rani De Coninck as Mama Pluis, Aster Nzeyimana as Jules, and his fiancée Lize Feryn as Moxie.
