Extra trains, known as P-trains, that operate exclusively during peak hours to and from Brussels, will be cancelled on Monday, 30 June, and Tuesday, 1 July, the Belgian National Railway Company (SNCB/NMBS) announced on its website.
This decision is a precautionary measure due to the forecasted heat. The aim is to ensure trains run safely and provide more comfort for passengers.
Maintenance teams will be bolstered during this period. SNCB warns that hot weather can impact train services over the summer months.
Travellers are advised to drink plenty of water, work from home if possible, and avoid travelling during peak times.
High temperatures can affect railway infrastructure, such as track and overhead line expansion, as well as train systems like air conditioning.
SNCB and rail network manager Infrabel will have their teams on standby around the clock and have increased their capacity.
Additionally, more air-conditioned trains will be deployed on the busiest routes during extreme heat.
