The train service in multiple parts of the country is disrupted due to the ongoing heatwave, announced the railway operator SNCB and the infrastructure operator Infrabel on Wednesday.
Train services will be suspended between 14:00 and 20:00 between Ghent-Saint-Pierre, Grammont, Renaix and Eeklo. According to the SNCB, this is a preventive measure to ensure the comfort of passengers and staff.
"These lines are served by diesel trains, which are more sensitive to very high temperatures,"explained Dimitri Temmerman, spokesperson for the SNCB. Replacement buses will be provided.
Infrabel has also announced that high speed TGV trains to Lille-Europe and Paris-Nord will run at 170 km/h instead of the usual 300 km/h between 12:00 and 20:00. This is also a preventive measure due to the heat.
The SNCB recommends that all passengers avoid rush hour as much as possible and bring sufficient water with them when travelling.
