Four people were arrested in connection to an attack on a bus in Anderlecht that left the bus driver injured, the Brussels Public Prosector's Office announced in a statement on Friday.

The incident took place on 1 July along the Ninove road. A De Lijn bus was heavily damaged by metal bars, stones and other objects. The vehicle's windscreen and side door window were smashed and the driver was injured by flying glass, a De Lijn spokesperson said on Tuesday.

According to the Prosector's Office, the bus driver is currently unable to work due to the incident. The victim support services have been instructed to provide support to the diver.

The initial findings of the investigation revealed that four people were involved. Two of them were arrested while the other two were taken into custody after turning themselves in to the police. One of the suspects is a minor and will be brought before a juvenile court judge.

The other suspects are set to appear before an investigating judge on Friday. They are facing charges of assault and battery with aggravating circumstances of incapacitating a protected person, and destruction of a vehicle with violence or threats as part of a group. They are also charged with carrying an improvised weapon, which means that an object not designed as a weapon was used as such.

"Violence is the top priority for the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office, especially gratuitous violence,’ said the Prosector's Office. "The actions on 1 July are unacceptable and warrant prosecution."

The Prosector's Office said it would not be making further comments on the case as the investigation is ongoing.
