One person was injured at Place Louise in Brussels early on Saturday morning, the Brussels Capital-Ixelles police zone has confirmed.
The shooting occurred around 5:20, and police support arrived on the scene immediately after, drawing up a security perimeter.
The victim was taken to hospital upon being discovered.
However, the shooter's motive remains unclear. "An investigation is ongoing to find out exactly what happened," the Brussels police said.
The Brussels-Capital Region has seen an increased number of shooting incidents in recent months, with Anderlecht being the most vulnerable municipality.
Police have increased efforts to track down gang members of an ongoing drug war, but violence continues to soar for now. Investigations into the matter have not concluded yet.
