A fire broke out on the top floors of a five-storey apartment in Ixelles on Saturday morning, but fortunately, no one was harmed in the process.
The fire brigade were called shortly before 8:00, due to a fierce fire on the top two levels of the building.
The safety operation lasted hours, as the fire broke out in the backside of the building, making it considerably harder to access for the firefighters, who battled with it throughout the morning. As a consequence, severe financial damage was caused to the building.
Floors and ceilings have to be repaired after an extensive amount of burnt debris fell to the ground, making it impossible for the fire brigade to attempt to extinguish the fire from the inside.
Miraculously, the fire did not catch on to the adjacent buildings. The cause of the incident is yet unclear, and can be further looked into in the future.
