A car transporting drugs was stopped on the Brussels ring road following a police chase, as first reported by the newspaper La Dernière Heure and confirmed by the Halle-Vilvoorde Public Prosecutor's Office.
On Monday evening, the Vilvoorde/Machelen police attempted to carry out a check on a vehicle on to ring road. The driver took off in the vehicle, prompting a chase, according to the Prosecutor's Office spokesperson, Ingrid Moriau.
"The fleeing vehicle suffered a flat tyre and came to a halt near Anderlecht. The driver fled the vehicle and jumped off a bridge. After a search, the driver of the vehicle was found injured, was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment," Moriau added.
During a search of the car, the police found a quantity of drugs. The Prosecutor's Office has not disclosed how much, but according to La Dernière Heure, it is said to be around 100 kilograms.
The driver of the vehicle will be brought before the investigating judge, according to the Prosecutor's Office.
