A 14-year-old girl was hit by a tram on Tuesday morning in the Brussels municipality of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, according to the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office, confirming earlier reports by local media.

The accident took place at around 11:00 on Avenue de Tervueren. According to various media reports, she was jogging there when she was hit by a tram on line 44.

"The victim was taken to hospital but is not in a life-threatening condition," said the Prosecutor's Office spokesperson Laura Demullier. "The public prosecutor's office has appointed a traffic expert to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. Witnesses who saw the accident happen are being interviewed. A forensic doctor has also been appointed to assess the victim's injuries."

Initial information indicates that the tram driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Prosecutor's Office will not provide further details on the incident as the investigation is ongoing.
