A judge in Hasselt has issued arrest warrants for six Afghans in connection with a knife attack at a bus stop in Lommel, Limburg, last Sunday.

Nine suspects were initially detained following the incident. Six have now been incarcerated and they are to appear before the Council Chamber in Hasselt on Friday.

Four young men were injured during the confrontation, two of them critically.

The six suspects are facing charges of attempted murder.

On Sunday evening, a group of Afghans went to Lommel to resolve a dispute with a fellow countryman staying at the Fedasil reception centre. However, a knife was whipped out during the altercation. The incident, involving around twenty people, took place at the bus stop opposite the church.

The two severely injured men are out of danger.

The nine suspects were questioned with the assistance of an interpreter, and the investigation is ongoing. In the meantime, the asylum seekers involved in the knife attack have been expelled from the Lommel reception centre.
