The Brussels Parliament unanimously decided to temporarily withhold 5% of parliamentary allowances pending a review with other parliaments, effective from the start of the 2025-2026 parliamentary session.
N-VA MP, Mathias Vanden Borre, expressed satisfaction that the Brussels Parliament, "under pressure from the N-VA and the federal Arizona coalition," is cutting costs on its operations and the salaries of MPs and special roles. "Given the dramatic budgetary situation of the Region, this is a rather small and symbolic measure," he said.
Stijn Bex from the Groen party highlighted that the proposal is part of a broader framework of cost-saving measures within the Brussels Parliament.
