Talks between the two largest French-speaking parties, PS and MR, have resumed to form a new Brussels Government.

Over a year since the elections on 9 June 2024, Brussels has yet to have a fully-fledged regional government. However, this could be about to change.

According to various sources, new talks are underway behind the scenes between the MR and the PS, the two largest parties in Brussels. MR leader, Georges-Louis Bouchez, confirmed this to Belga News Agency on Friday.

Bouchez emphasised that the aim is to find a "solution" by the national holiday on 21 July. He added that "creative solutions" are being worked on. "It might not be the government of our dreams, but a solution is needed," he added.

On Thursday, ahead of the Day of the Flemish Community, Flemish Minister-President Matthias Diependaele made it clear that, for him, a new Brussels Government can only be formed if there is a majority in the Dutch-speaking language group. Bouchez shared this view. "It is legally established that a majority in both language groups is required in parliament," said the MR leader.
