A vintage aircraft made a safe emergency landing at Deurne Airport in Antwerp after losing its left front wheel. Both occupants were unharmed, according to the Federal police.
The airport was temporarily closed to air traffic due to the incident, but has since resumed its normal operations. Two flights were diverted to Brussels Airport.
The vintage aircraft lost its left front wheel after taking off from Brasschaat Airport. It circled to burn off excess fuel before making an emergency landing at Deurne Airport. Emergency services were on standby, but the landing went smoothly.
The runway was undamaged and the plane has since been moved to a hangar, according to Business Unit Manager at Antwerp Airport, Stephane Pötgens.
"We are extremely relieved that the aircraft landed safely without major damage and the occupants are uninjured. Thanks to excellent cooperation with all emergency services and agencies involved, the situation was handled according to procedures," said Antwerp Airport CEO Nathan De Valck.
