Donald Rose, the oldest British veteran of World War II, has died at the age of 110.
Born on Christmas Eve 1914, he was known as Britain’s oldest man, and his passing was confirmed by Erewash Borough Council.
In May, Rose was an honoured guest among 45 other veterans at a Royal British Legion (RBL) reception, celebrating 80 years since the end of World War II in Europe. He had been part of the division that liberated the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp and remarked that he did not celebrate the memorable day 80 years ago.
Originally from Westcott, Surrey, he joined the army at 23 and served in North Africa, Italy, and France. He received numerous medals, including France’s highest honour, the Legion of Honour.
