A man has been committed to psychiatric care by the court in connection with the shooting of a 61-year-old woman from Eigenbrakel in Anderlecht in March 2024, as confirmed by the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office.

On Wednesday, 7 March 2024, police received a report around 19:20 stating that an unconscious woman was in a vehicle on Gheudestraat in Anderlecht. Emergency services were already attempting to resuscitate the woman upon arrival, and she appeared to have facial injuries.

The victim, in a critical condition, was transported to Saint Peter’s Hospital, where doctors discovered she had sustained gunshot wounds to the head. She later succumbed to her injuries.

That same evening, a 26-year-old man was arrested as a suspect. He was a friend of one of the victim’s three sons and had been living with her for several months. He was charged with murder, although he never clarified his motive. A court psychiatrist diagnosed him as legally insane, leading the court to order his confinement to a psychiatric institution.
