Flemish Minister of Mobility Annick De Ridder provided an initial overview on Radio 1 of the infrastructure projects that will receive funding from the Flemish government over the coming years.
The government reached an agreement on Monday evening regarding the Integrated Investment Programme (GIP). A press conference is scheduled for 11:15 today.
The GIP outlines funding allocations up to 2027, with plans for the final two years of the term to be developed later. The annual budget will reach €2.2 billion by 2029.
In the province of Limburg, funds will be primarily allocated to the realisation of the North-South connection. In East Flanders, money will support the Gentspoort project, including the construction of an additional ten kilometres of tramline. The Eastern Tangent will be developed in Sint-Niklaas, and West Flanders will receive funding for the locks in Zeebrugge.
In Flemish Brabant, budget provisions will support the airport tram. In Antwerp, a bicycle bridge over the Scheldt will be built, although its funding will originate from the Overpass Fund, which is annually supplemented with the under-utilisation of the Department of Mobility and Public Works’ budget.
For smaller projects, priority will be given to those with the greatest potential for economic return, traffic safety improvement, and promoting a modal shift, De Ridder stated.
