Proximus was the only major Belgian telecommunications operator to see an increase in national revenue in 2024, consolidating its position as the market leader, according to the latest annual report by the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT) released on Wednesday.
National revenue from telecommunications services slightly decreased by 0.1% year-on-year, reaching €8.64 billion, following a 2.6% growth the previous year.
Proximus, which includes Scarlet and Mobile Vikings, saw a market share increase of 0.6%, holding between 40% and 50% of the Belgian market. Telenet, including Base, lost 0.4% but remained the second largest operator with a market share of 20% to 30%. Orange/Voo maintained its position as the third-largest operator with a stable share of 20% to 30%.
In the residential market, Proximus strengthened its position with a market share increase of 0.7 percentage points. However, in the non-residential market, it experienced a decrease of 0.6% but still held over 50% market share. Conversely, Telenet experienced a 1% drop in the residential market but enjoyed a 1.2% increase in the non-residential sector.
Orange/Voo continues to hold third place in both segments, with a 0.3% gain in the residential sector and stability in the non-residential market.
The BIPT also highlighted the operators’ investments, mainly focused on fibre and 5G deployment. In total, €2.74 billion was invested in 2024, marking a 4.5% increase year on year.
