The Government of Brussels is preparing an action plan to address the time limit on unemployment benefits announced by the federal government and provide instructions on how to adapt its support measures.
The aim is to be ready this autumn to support job seekers as the federal reform comes into force in January 2026, Brussels Employment Minister Bernard Clerfayt announced on Thursday.
According to Clerfayt, the Government of Brussels will also convene a social summit in Autumn with social partners and stakeholders in employment and training to coordinate the regional implementation of the federal reform in line with the realities of the region.
The action plan is being defined in consultation with the regional employment and training services - Actiris and Bruxelles Formation - and the Public Social Action Centres (CPAS). It consists of seven measures to strengthen support, accelerate transitions to employment and protect the most vulnerable groups.
It also involves simplifying checks to align with the new federal deadlines and triggering reorientation actions more quickly.
Actiris will intensify its support for job seekers, with more individual interviews and increased mobilisation of resources to avoid breaks in entitlement.
All job seekers and Social Integration Revenue (RIS) beneficiaries will be able to benefit from a skills assessment launched in 2023, in order to define appropriate training pathways.
A system will be deployed to guide people more systematically towards qualifying training courses, targeting shortage occupations and growth sectors.
