A tram derailed on Friday morning on line 44 in Tervuren, Flemish Brabant, following a collision with a lorry, according to the Brussels public transport company (STIB), confirming reports from several media outlets.
The incident occurred shortly before 08:00 on Avenue de Tervuren, near the Brusselsesteenweg stop.
A lorry collided with a tram under circumstances that are still unclear, causing the lorry to topple onto its side and derail the tram.
“The lorry driver was injured in the accident and was taken to hospital,” said a STIB spokesperson. “The tram driver was unharmed but is in shock. Tram passengers were not injured,” the spokesperson added.
As a result, tram 44 services have been suspended between Quatre Bras and Tervuren Station. Replacement buses have been arranged by STIB.
