A man from Deurne, Antwerp, spent a week in prison after his photo mistakenly appeared on the Kingdom’s most wanted criminals list.

He was arrested while attempting to clarify the misunderstanding with the police and was incarcerated at the Begijnenstraat detention centre in Antwerp, according to reports from Gazet van Antwerpen and Het Nieuwsblad on Saturday.

The man claims that Jeton Begesi, who was convicted of kidnapping, unlawful detention, and rape, impersonated him after being detained without identification.

Since then, the Antwerp resident has been arrested twice because he was internationally flagged under Jeton Begesi’s name, which the criminal had used as an alias.

During his latest arrest, the police took a judicial photo, which erroneously ended up on the Most Wanted list, as reported by the Flemish press.

The man and his lawyer are considering seeking reparations, according to Gazet van Antwerpen.
