A tornado that struck the Flemish Brabant region around Geetbets and Zoutleeuw on 26 September has been officially recognised as a disaster, the Flemish government announced on Friday. Several homes lost their roofs during the severe weather event.
According to the Flemish Disaster Fund, September saw exceptional weather conditions in the area. Those who incurred damages can now request partial compensation through the fund.
A tiered system is in place for compensation, with higher tiers resulting in reduced payouts.
On the same day, the tornado also devastated around 20 properties in Beauvechain in Walloon Brabant. The violent winds tore roofs, uprooted power poles, and caused significant destruction. An entire barn was flattened as well.
