The seven suspects involved in incidents near Vilvoorde station last night will appear before the examining magistrate and the juvenile court, according to the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office.

The local police zone Vilvoorde-Machelen reported that around 00:30, a group of masked youths began vandalising the area near Vilvoorde station. About twenty more youths joined the troublemakers. Police officers, reinforced by neighbouring zones, arrived at the scene but were attacked, leading to a cat-and-mouse chase that lasted until around 3:00.

During the disturbances, several police vehicles and other cars were damaged, bus shelters were destroyed, windows were smashed, and four police officers sustained minor injuries. Nine people, including five adults and four minors, were detained.

Two of the minors, residents of Brussels, have been handed over to the Brussels prosecutor’s office. The two other minors have been referred to the juvenile court by the Halle-Vilvoorde prosecutor’s office, while the five adults will appear before the examining magistrate.
