Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the American actor best known for his role in ‘The Cosby Show,’ has died by drowning at the age of 54 off the coast of Costa Rica, police confirmed to ABC News.
Warner drowned on Sunday near Cocles Beach where, police report, he was caught by a strong current.
According to People magazine, the incident occurred during a family holiday. The actor’s spokesperson has yet to comment on the news.
Warner played Theodore Huxtable, the son of Bill Cosby’s character Heathcliff in ‘The Cosby Show,’ from 1984 to 1992. He was nominated for an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in 1986.
He was also known for the series ‘Malcolm & Eddie’ and had a role in ‘Suits.’ In 2015, Warner won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance for his song ‘Jesus Children.’
He was married and had a daughter.
